Ways Civil Engineers are helping curb COVID-19

As COVID-19 shuts down more and more of the way Americans function, we at Zuendt wanted to share some of the ways that civil engineers such as ourselves are helping to keep the country going.

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is performing site inspections across Maryland, Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia to support a nationwide FEMA mission assignment to convert existing large spaces into alternate care sites to augment COVID-19 response efforts.
  • The ACSE has created a place for civil engineers to share ideas and resources during the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Alexandria Boehm, a Stanford professor of civil and environmental engineering, co-authored a report calling for a broader, long-term and more quantitative approach to understanding viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2, that are spread through the environment.

The reality is that we are in this together. It’s time to find solutions and to be safe.
